Old Town Bosiljevo

Bosiljevo

The Old Town of Bosiljevo, a monumental fortress perched on a hill above the village, tells a story centuries in the making. This immovable cultural heritage site, registered in the Croatian Register of Cultural Goods in 2002, preserves the history of noble families and the transformations it has undergone. Built in the 15th century by the Frankopan family, the town changed ownership multiple times – from Nikola Erdődy to the Auersperg family, and later became the estate of Count Laval Nugent, who reshaped it in the spirit of Romanticism. This renovation, along with later adaptations in the early 20th century, left an indelible mark on its appearance.

Bosiljevo is unique for its irregular pentagonal layout, impressive towers and walls, and its well-preserved Chapel of St. Anne, where wedding ceremonies are still held today. In the past, it served as a retirement home and later as a restaurant with lodging, while the surrounding park-forest, designated as a Monument of Landscape Architecture, offers a serene retreat in nature.

If you seek inspiration and a journey back in time, the Old Town of Bosiljevo provides the perfect blend of history, nature, and architecture.
