St. Vid's Day in Ozalj

St. Vitus is revered as the patron saint of eyes and vision, pharmacists, actors, and is prayed to for protection from thunderstorms, bad weather, and fires.

The feast has always been significant for the citizens of the town of Ozalj, and St. Vitus has been recognized as the town's symbol since as early as 1668, when the church was renovated.

In the churchyard, you will find the final resting place of the painter Slava Raškaj and the Croatian ban Nikola Tomašić, who was born near Ozalj. On the facade of the church, there is also a plaque dedicated to the renowned linguist Ivan Belostenec, who worked in Ozalj and wrote a three-language Croatian-Latin dictionary.

The medieval church of St. Vitus is a single-nave building with a rectangular base, a Romanesque church with a rounded sanctuary and a bell tower in front of the western facade.
