The Karlovac Music School

The Karlovac Music School is the oldest city music school in Croatia and the only art school in the Karlovac County. It is also the third oldest music school in Europe (after Paris and Berlin).
The first music teacher was the organist Franz Zihak, and the school experienced a turning point in 1826 when Czech composer, conductor, and music educator Oton Hauska came to Karlovac. Besides being a teacher and director of the Music School, Hauska was also one of the founders and choirmasters of the "Zora" Singing Society. Among other roles, he played the organ and led the church choir in the Church of the Holy Trinity.
During a school year, the Music School holds over a hundred concerts of its own production (including the highly popular open-air music spectacle called "Classics in the Park"). At the same time, it carries out or is involved in many projects and events that promote musical heritage, as well as music education and training.

The school also operates through its regional departments in Ozalj and Slunj.
