Vrlovka Cave

Kamanje

Vrlovka Cave is located along the Kupa River in the village of Kamanje, near Ozalj. Due to its natural values, it was protected in 1962 as a geomorphological monument of nature. The cave has been explored over a length of 380 meters, 330 meters of which have been arranged for visitation.

It is one of the oldest known caves in Croatia, attracting the attention of historians, archaeologists, and naturalists for over 150 years, as well as tourists, hikers, and nature lovers. Biospeleological findings have been recorded in Vrlovka since the mid-19th century, and the geomorphological features and sedimentological characteristics of the cave motivated hikers to arrange it for tourism in 1928.

Vrlovka is inhabited by bats year-round, as the temperature range throughout the year allows various bat species to stay there throughout all seasons.

Four species of bats have been recorded in the cave.
