Old stone Cetin is one of the oldest medieval settlements and a first-class monument of Croatian history and the art of building military fortifications. If you have visited Vienna and walked through the Austrian State Archives, you might have encountered one of the most important documents of Croatian statehood: the charter in which Ferdinand Habsburg was proclaimed king of Croatia on New Year's Day in 1527 at the Assembly in what is now Cetingrad. The Cetingrad charter, with its seven seals, speaks to the significance of the ancient city of Cetin in history, while also hinting at at least as many reasons to visit Cetingrad today.

To feel the spirit of history upon entering the fortress is a privilege for those who know how thorny the path to success can be. Sometimes it's good to pause for a moment in this historical-present moment and let your thoughts float above the relaxing green hills of the Cetingrad area. This is a place of turbulent past and the calm of today's era. Wealth here has a different dimension and is hidden in the atmosphere. Horse lovers will enjoy the legendary livestock fair traditionally held in Cetingrad on the feast of Saint Joseph, where they can marvel at the procession of carriages and horseback riders. Archaeologists and speleologists have the honor of visiting the House Cave, one of about twenty fortified caves in Karlovac County, placing it among the world's top sites for such formations. These cave fortifications are perfect examples of architectural mastery, built as shelters and strongholds for the struggles of ordinary people against their enemies. Hunters and fishermen will revel in the rich fauna of the forests, rivers, and streams. Mushroom pickers will find that the wooded hills of Cetingrad are a paradise full of mushrooms. It’s worth mentioning that this area is a natural ecological zone and that the taste of cheese here is authentic and truly special.

Discover the charms of the hidden and the offered, whether you have come with intention or have simply stumbled upon this place, whether you are an archaeologist, hunter, veterinarian, fisherman, dairyman, gastronomer, speleologist, farmer, mushroom picker, or a passionate horse lover.

And if you just want to shorten your journey from Slavonia to Plitvice Lakes, you will find yourself in Cetingrad again. Do not take it lightly; you might just complete your lifelong learning and enroll in the “Chasing School” here. The only way to find out is to come to Cetingrad and discover what it’s all about.
