In the Ribnik Valley lies the only preserved lowland fortress in Croatia. The old Ribnik Castle, an original Wasserburg dating back to the 13th century, served as a defense against invaders. The Obrh stream originates near the castle and was used to supply water to the defensive fishpond. In times of danger, the castle would become an impregnable island. The impressive structure still hides some secret corridors, hidden dungeons, and bricked-up mystical passages. Be brave and explore!

A beautiful view of all that Ribnik has to offer can be seen from the summit of the 538-meter-high Vodenica Hill. Lying on the meadow at the top, you'll wonder why it’s called Vodenica (meaning "water mill"), as there's no water or spring on the hill. But looking from the valley, through the eyes of the past inhabitants, when droughts would strike, the gaze would turn towards the hill, searching for life-saving clouds of rain. When the time came for "no water" (meaning none was to be found), Vodenica offered hope for rainy clouds.

In the summer, stop by for a refreshment and dive into the Kupa River in the village of Bogovci. In autumn, come for mushroom and chestnut picking. Late spring offers you carpets of wild strawberries in the meadows above Ribnik. In winter, follow the tracks of wildlife in the snow, or simply grab a sled and let the hidden child inside you enjoy the snowy joys. When you get tired, a warm and cozy atmosphere awaits you at the Heart of Nature, a rustic estate in Gorica Lipnička. You've earned a rest under the old linden tree with homemade tea and strudel.
