Žakanje and the natural beauty of its surroundings were discovered in the mid-20th century. The Kupa River through the Žakanje region, from Stankovci to Bubnjarci, creates twelve beautiful waterfalls. At the larger waterfalls, there are still small mills maintained by the locals, who fight to preserve them from the ravages of time. Sitting in a boat and gently drifting from one waterfall to the next is an experience that changes with the seasons. In spring, when the snow melts and the Kupa rushes toward Ozalj, you'll experience an adrenaline-filled adventure. In summer, the descent is lively, with locals and passing travelers enjoying the waterfalls for a swim. In autumn, it transforms into a misty enchantment with yellow and red reflections of the leaves on the calm water's surface. Don't forget to stop at the newly renovated waterfalls in Sračak, Pravutina, Mišinci, and Bubnjarci.

If you're in search of catfish, carp, pike, chub, barbel, or roach, your destination is the Kupa River between Jurovski Brod and Bubnjarci. If you're a hunter, head out with the local hunting society to explore the rich hunting grounds of the hilly, wooded terrain around Žakanje. Mushroom and chestnut pickers will find their paradise here, and don't be surprised if you spot an unusual sight—a rider on horseback disappearing into the mist of the neighboring hill.
